As long as I can remember I have always been a stitcher, sewing, embroidery or knitting. But I was an article by Kay Dennis in ‘Needlework’ in 1994 that made me want to make needlelace. It wasn’t until three years later 1997 after a small add appeared in ‘Workbox’ with details of Kay’s July workshop in Uxbridge that I started to learn to make needlelace and to date twelve years later I still go to her classes.
Kay also was the tutor at Missenden Abbey for the City & Guilds Stumpwork 1998-1999, which I was one in her first group to pass. I have since gone on to make many other laces including bobbin laces and I gained my City & Guilds in Lacemaking both Certificate and Diploma, at Camberley with Ann Day.
I have been a Committee member of The Guild of Needlelaces for nine years, being the Treasurer for four and I am now in my fifth and last year of being Chairman. My time given on the committee has been repaid three fold with the number of friends I have made.
I also belong to North Downs Lacemakers and their Fritillary Group.
